THIN LINE ADVISORY

THIN LINE ADVISORYTHIN LINE ADVISORYTHIN LINE ADVISORY

A CONFIDENTIAL ALLY FOR THE MOMENTS YOU DON'T TALK ABOUT

Owned and Operated by Shauna 'Doc' Springer, Ph.D.

When the weight of leadership gets personal, you need someone who understands your world. I work with leaders who carry invisible burdens - those who are expected to stay strong, no matter the cost. I offer a space of trust, insight, and discretion - no judgment, no diagnosis - just real conversations that help you continue to lead without losing yourself.

My bio

I am a nationally renowned psychologist and field-leading authority, best-selling author, and keynote speaker who has guided groundbreaking initiatives in trauma recovery, suicide prevention, close relationships, and military and first responder psychology. I'm known for my uniquely perceptive insights, discretion, and the blending of psychological expertise with strategic guidance. Through my newest initiative, THIN LINE ADVISORY, I'm now offering consultation to public safety leaders and their departments.

- SEAC (Ret) Ramon Colon-Lopez

Senior Enlisted Advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (Ret)

SEAC Ramón “CZ” Colón-López served as the Principal Military Advisor to the Chairman on all matters involving joint and combined total force integration, utilization, health of the force and joint development for enlisted personnel.

The Need for a New Kind of Advising Capacity

As a public safety leader, you and your department face many life-altering challenges that do not fit within the scope - or training - of either “coaching” or “psychotherapy.”

To give some specific examples:

  • Collective grief after a line-of-duty death
  • The impact of a suicide in the ranks
  • Moral injuries and multi-layered ethical dilemmas
  • Chronic adrenal overdrive (living in a state of "fight or flight")
  • Compassion fatigue
  • Private grief that can impact the job (and everything else)
  • Family relationship strain due to the job, or that compounds job stress
  • Public character assassination (of yourself or the Department)
  • Media misrepresentation of yourself or Department members
  • Survivor guilt, events that create feelings of private shame
  • Traumatic Transposition
  • Self-destructive blind spots
  • Spillover anger
  • and Transitional challenges, including preparing for retirement

These challenges are not problems with individuals, to be diagnosed and treated.

They are NOT evidence of a lack of resilience.

They are based on common experiences that first responders often face - and specialized insights can help address them.

Applying Uniquely Specialized Expertise

For many years, I have operated as a trusted, confidential advisor within the military community, helping military leaders tackle these kinds of challenges based on my highly specialized expertise. I'm now opening up this service to public safety leaders.

In this role, I operate not as a therapy provider, but as a private strategic consultant, to equip you and your team with a thoughtful, well-informed perspective on many of your toughest challenges.

On the "services" page, you'll see examples of how public safety leaders have used my expertise.
