In honor of John "Danger" Davison, who served faithfully in Vietnam and then as a Reserve Officer in the Walnut Creek Police Department.
John was a wonderful friend to Michael Sugrue, and he ultimately saved Michael’s life.
One very memorable day, in the Fall of 2022, John came to sit awhile on my porch and touched my heart with his spirit and his story.
Bearing witness to, writing and sharing his story is my tribute to John, a good man whose memory will live on in the pages of RELENTLESS COURAGE: Winning the Battle Against Frontline Trauma.
Just below, Michael Sugrue and I have made available John's chapter of RELENTLESS COURAGE, which is free to read, download and share, as long as it is not altered in any way. This is John's story and our goal is honor and keep John's memory alive.

It was in the dawn of autumn
I returned to my hometown
Far away were left the memories of a blood soaked ground
No longer would I sit there wondering if I’d die
No more the roars of anguish, no more the battle cry.
Then I turned to Arlington on one clear winter’s night.
The lamps they’re burning brightly and my heart felt out of sight.
I felt another chapter jolt forth in my brain, but knew I’d have to leave her in that Arlington rain.
Then time began to vanish with each and every day, and I knew I’d have to change all my old past ways.
The mountains, valleys, sunsets at that time ceased to be
Just another phase of life that had meant a lot to me.
And there’s the tough times up ahead, I see them all right now,
The long hard road of life unfolds, the devil makes you bow.
But just you smile and show some spine, and then you’ll know it’s true
That justice, truth, and honesty will turn and follow you.
But try so very hard and maybe you can understand, that just because I’m strong, doesn’t mean I can withstand.
The time will have to come and it’s just not very kind,
Then back into yourself you’ll have to seek and search and find.
